The Pavilion Partners Provides Area Students with Scholarship Opportunities

The Woodlands, TX – The Pavilion Partners, the official volunteer organization of The Center for the Performing Arts at The Woodlands, home of The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion, awards scholarships annually to graduating high school seniors and renewal scholarship recipients majoring in or intending to major in the Fine Arts.  These areas of study include vocal or instrumental music, theatre arts, graphic arts, visual arts and dance.  The application deadline for the 2010 Pavilion Partners Scholarship Program is Feb.1.

Scholarships, awarded to students based on talent and academic performance, are available to students in Conroe, Klein, Magnolia, Montgomery, Spring, Tomball and Willis school districts, MacArthur and Carver high schools in Aldine ISD and private schools within each district’s boundaries. Applicants must intend to major in the Fine Arts, may apply in only one talent area, and must be U.S. citizens or eligible residents.  Scholarship applications are available at counselors' offices or at www.woodlandscenter.org/partners.

After meeting the application deadline, students are scheduled for auditions at The Pavilion in March. Scholarship winners are determined by mid-April and are notified by mail. Students also are honored at The Pavilion Partners Scholarship Reception.

Most of the scholarships awarded are for $1,000; however, six special $2,000 scholarships are awarded to the high school students receiving the highest combined score for academics and talent in each fine arts category. These named scholarships include The Pavilion Partners Scholarship Honoring the Founding Members, the Vince Caracio Memorial Scholarship, the Nancy & Casey Kosh Scholarship, the Lois A. Hurt Scholarship and the Nancy Bock Memorial Scholarship. These scholarships are renewable a maximum of four times as long as the student is working toward a fine arts degree.

Also, each year, Partners bestows a $2,000 scholarship in the name of individuals or companies that have made a special commitment to The Pavilion during the year.  The 2009 Pavilion Partners Scholarship honored Nelda Luce & Jim Blair of The Woodlands.

In 2009, The Pavilion Partners received 37 new applications for Fine Arts Scholarships. The organization awarded six $2,000 scholarships and 10 $1,000 scholarships to new applicants for the 2009-10 academic year. Additionally, Partners awarded 34 renewal scholarships to ongoing recipients who have renewed their commitment to major in the Fine Arts. The Pavilion Partners Fine Arts Scholarship committee has awarded more than $400,000 in scholarships since its inception in 1999.

The Pavilion Partners, launched in 1998, is an important part of The Pavilion and its educational programs. In addition to awarding scholarships, Partners supports The Pavilion by fund raising for the performing arts and educational outreach programs. Partners also provides event volunteers for performances and programs at The Pavilion.
