A Recipe for Success: Lone Star College-Montgomery Accounting Student Pursues Passion for Salsa

Adding some spice to her education, Lone Star College-Montgomery student Patty Baker has combined her business knowledge with her cooking passion to publish the Salsa Recipe Book (AuthorHouse, 2011), a collection of authentic, nutritious salsa recipes.

The mother of two from The Woodlands, who has been working part-time toward an associate of applied science degree in accounting for close to five years, will graduate this fall, just in time to kick off her catering/food establishment business.

Lone Star College System to host Texas Community Development Institute

HOUSTON (Feb. 1, 2012) – Lone Star College System will host the Texas Community Development Institute during a week-long session March 5-9.

The five-day training is designed for community officials, volunteers and employees who work with city/state/county governments, chambers of commerce, economic development organizations, utility companies and community social services.

The Academy for Lifelong Learning (ALL) at Lone Star College-Montgomery is pleased to recognize Gigi Hancock and Doris Humphress as the organization’s 2011 Volunteers of the Year. This is the fourth year that ALL, an intellectual and personal growth program for active, older adults, has issued this award.

X-Ray Reveals 100 Percent Pass Rate on National Exam For LSC-Montgomery Radiologic Technology Graduates

For the seventh year, Lone Star College-Montgomery’s medical radiologic technology graduating class captured a perfect image—a 100 percent first-attempt pass rate on the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification exam. All 22 students passed the national board exam with an average score of 90, well above the national average score of 85.1.

Gloria Marshall Elementary Awarded LEED® Gold Certification

SPRING, Tx (Jan. 25, 2012) – Gloria Marshall Elementary School in Spring ISD has been awarded LEED® Gold certification by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). Gloria Marshall is the first public school in Houston to achieve LEED Gold.

Designed by SHW Group, the 105,000-square-foot facility opened in August 2011. It is the first school in Houston to use geothermal heating and cooling, which already has saved the district 41 percent in energy consumption over its average elementary school energy usage.
